Placement Testing
Special Needs
Scholarships
Placement tests are available to aid school officials and parents who are interested in determining
proper placement of a student in a particular course, especially world language and mathematics courses.
After a student has taken a placement test, the ND CDE teacher will evaluate it and recommend
which semester or level of the course is appropriate for that student.
ND CDE will send placement tests for any of the
courses listed for a service fee of $15.00.
Placement tests are available for:
- All levels of French, German, Latin, and Spanish.
- All levels of math, science, and English.
If a student has special learning needs or other circumstances that might affect his or her ability to
successfully complete a course, please inform the ND CDE principal at 701-231-6008. Such information
will help ND CDE better serve the student. If there is an IEP in place, or if the student is receiving special
services in the local school, it would be helpful for ND CDE to be aware of this information. Any
information provided about a student will be kept confidential. ND CDE also enlarges Study Guides
and will order large-print textbooks for visually impaired students.
Two scholarships are available through ND CDE. One honors Dr. T.W. Thordarson, founder and first
director of our program, and is based on financial need. The Valentina Popel Memorial Scholarship is
based on prior academic achievement. Mrs. Popel taught French, German, and Russian at ND CDE for
35 years.
Those interested in applying for a scholarship may request application forms by writing to
the Scholarship Team, ND Center for Distance Education, Box 5036, Fargo, North Dakota 58105-5036.
